I found this on another Kiefer board so I thought you guys might want to see it. This is a recent article.
Kiefer Sutherland, whose hard-partying ways almost derailed his career in the '90s is the first to admit he has a wild side. "I haven't always been an alter boy," he says. These days, his career is back on track, with a starring role on the hit series 24 and a big part in Taking Lives, which hits theaters next week. But he still gets caught up in the occasional scandal: In February, the 37 year old actor required stitches after defending himself in an LA bar brawl. With a public split from former fiancee Julia Roberts in 1991 and two failed marriages, he hasn't always been the best at relationships. Still, there's one lady to whom he stays devoted--his daughter Sarah, 16 (with first wife Camelia Kath). But Kiefer, who is currently single, remains optimistic, saying, "I believe in love and marriage."
Q: You've played vampires and good guys. Why play an evil part in Taking Lives?
A: It's an incredibly intense psychological thriller. When I first picked up the script, I couldn't put it down until I read it all the way through. And I got to work with Angelina Jolie and Ethan Hawke--some amazing actors.
Q: Now, you've also been in the news because of that recent LA bar fight. How did it start?
A: For the millions of people out there rooting for me, there's a small group who resent the attention that celebrities receive. I try to avoid those kind of people. But, when someone wants to hurt you, there's nothing you can do but defend yourself.
Q: You're considered such a bad boy, but you're a good dad to your daughter, Sarah. How has that changed you?
A: It took me a very long time to realize I needed to be a responsible father and make her a major part of my life. I learn new, amazing things about her every day. Once, she made a (ceramic) cup for me, and I realized she had a grasp of sarcasm when she wrote, "My daddy is a saint." Obviously, she was joking!
Q: Fifteen years ago, you and Julia Roberts were engaged. Why did it end so suddenly?
A: It was because two people really weren't ready to be married. Actually, we weren't even meant to be together anymore. Luckily, Julia realized it before we went through with the marriage. I was crushed. But in retrospect, it was the best thing she could have done for our relationship.
Q: After two failed marriages, would you wed again?
A: I don't rule it out. And who knows, the third time just might be the charm! I'm really a hopeless romantic at heart--or maybe I'm just hopeless.
Q: Is this the best time of your life?
A: Five years ago, if you would have said I would be winning awards and starring in a hit show, I would have said you were dreaming. I guess this is my second chance. This time around, I'm not going to take any moment of it for granted, because I know what it feels like to almost lose it all.
You think maybe we're in with a chance? lol
That is so cute!
