I didn;t see a thread on this movie, so I decided to start one. Has anyone else seen this movie? I was lucky enough to see it when a friend of mine brought her copy down from Ohio. (She got it from a friend in Asia who taped it for her).
Anyway, any thoughts on the movie, or am I the only one who has seen it??

I've seen it. This had me bawling like a complete baby. It quite simply has to be one of the saddest movies I've ever seen (well next to BTRD anyway).
In fact it affects me so much that I've only been able to watch it the once, which is a shame because it's just so incredibly good.
Kiefer's performance is amazing (as are the rest of the cast), his tan is soooo golden and yummy.
All in all a must buy/watch if you can get hold of it.

I, too, cried like a baby. To think that this movie was based on a true story is amazing, and the acting in it by all characters (especially Kiefer's Reardon) is amazing. I have only had the chance to see it the once too, but you can bet that when it becomes available on DVD here in the States, I will pay the price, no matter how much. Such a good, emotional, "tug-at-the-emotional-heartstrings" movie.

I bought a copy from England 2 months ago... I could not directly see it... I have some problems to watch War movies, maybe because my grand-father told me so much about this period and what he had to endure (he was a prisoner of the Germans). When you see a fiction story, you know this is not really reality, but with WWII movies, it's different (well that's how I feel it). After a long though, I played the movie last week... I also cryed a lot over it... Kiefer is great in his caracter, but what I liked the most is the Scottish accent from some of the other actors ! I hated the scene when the Japanese slam Kiefer with a spade !!! I don't think that I will re-run it in the near futur (call me a chicken if you like !). It is a great movie and I don't understand why this was never played in Belgian Theaters ?? TseTseTse... Lyly.

I totally agree, just seen it and love it to bits.
this film has to be watched by anyone and everyone.
well for those who like to spoil it for themselves and read spoilers here is a little one for you.
they call Kiefer's character.... Yanker. hahahahahahah cos he a yanky doodle dandy... yer Kiefer sings that in the film, but he is also a wanker hahahaha so they call him Yanker.
(ok free autograph to the first person meeting Kiefer to call him Yanker..... LOL)
this film is based on Ernest Youngs book. he died in 2002 after serving in the war.
This film is so good. cant emphasis this enough. the Japenesse really learnt off these soldiers. In the commentary afterwards, it even says the Japanese think the film should be seen by young Japs....
this film comes highly recommended...
And if you like and hav a multiregion player then youcan obtain this dvd from play.com...
or if you have trouble can get it if you do paypal.

Well I fineally got to watch this movie today Thanks to pantha. It was an excellent movie onces again it proves how talented are man is.The others were great and it is so sad that it was a true story. it really gets to you more knowing that what they all had to go through. Poor yankers reardon I recommand anyone that has a chance to see it watch it at least once.Im not sure if i could watch this movie alot but i could maybe watch it again to see what i had missed.
